Studio D’artisan DM-002 (Denimio Contest)

Around 3-4 months back Denimio announced that they would make a new fade contest. This time it would Studio D’Artisan that was the provider of the contest jeans. I didn’t think long about it and booked a pair.

This pair is my first Studio D’Artisan jeans, I have seen lots of pairs at forums and only heard good things about the brand. My knowledge about Studio D’Artisan was and still is very limited. The only things I know is that they are part of the Osaka 5 and one of the “Godfathers” of the raw denim industry in Japan.

Info about the jeans:

Weight: 15 OZ.
Type of Fabric: Unsanforized denim.
Type of Cotton: American and Australian blend cotton.
Methods of Dyeing: Rope dyed with pure indigo.

2 very cool and detailed parts of the denim are the sashiko coin pocket and that there is half lined camouflage fabric inside the back pocket. These two things stand out, and even though that they are not that visible. They just give the wearer a feeling of having a pair of jeans that are different and made to stand out from the crowd.
The jeans also have SDA’s signature arc pockets. For the most part, people are for or against arcs. I’m in the group that likes it because it gives the jeans an edge and stands out of the crowd, without being too much. I can see that if you have a formal persona or job, and don’t want/can’t have anything that stands out then arc’s aren’t for you.

Fit:

The fit of the DM-002 is a semi-low rise with good room in the thigh and has a solid taper.

Fit after around 4 months wear (Before 1 wash)

Fabric:

As stated the cotton is a mix of American and Australian. It has a little bit of a beige weft and a blue selvedge line. The fabric itself is very soft and has a hairy surface. There is no slub in the pair, they are very clean and smooth but with the hairy surface to them. Normally I like to wear heavier denim, that’s over 20OZ, this pair comes in at 15 OZ. But I feel very comfortable in this pair.

This pair of jeans will be my canvas for the next year, that’s for sure.
Both because this is a pair of jeans, that is of very high quality. But also because the first prize is a trip to Japan to meet with the Denimio team, what jean freak wouldn’t want to win that prize?
